Fast answer: On the Canon EOS 850D (Rebel T8i), silent shooting is the Silent LV shoot option used in Live View. Set it to Mode 1, then do a quick LED test shot to make sure you are not getting banding/flicker.
Canon Silent Shooting Guide: What silent shooting does, tradeoffs, and common problems.
Do this (5 steps)
- Set the camera to P / Av / Tv / M.
- Turn on Live View.
- Press MENU → open the Shooting (red camera) tab.
- Find Silent LV shoot → choose Mode 1 (safe default).
- Take a test shot indoors under LEDs. If you see banding, disable silent or adjust shutter speed.
Troubleshooting
Silent LV shoot is missing/greyed out
- Make sure Live View is enabled.
- Remove any flash/trigger from the hot shoe.
- Use a normal mode (avoid Bulb/special modes while testing).
Rolling shutter / distortion
- Electronic/silent modes can distort fast motion. If you’re shooting action, test silent on vs off.
