Direct answer
Canon advises formatting cards using Low level format before recording 4K movies (for reliability).
How to do a low level format (steps)
- Back up anything on the card (this erases it).
- Insert the card, then press MENU.
- Go to the Setup (wrench) tab.
- Select Format card.
- If you use both slots, choose Slot 1 or Slot 2.
- Enable (tick) Low level format.
- Select OK to start formatting.
What it means in practice
This is a reliability step. Back up your footage, then do a low-level format before an important 4K shoot to reduce the chance of recording errors.
